Who are we?  We are a group of individuals from many different walks of life. Beautifully diverse in our backgrounds, skills, and talents, we have come together united by a deep appreciation for Hawaii and a shared mission: to be the Pure Aloha change we wish to see in the world, one heartbeat at a time. Our speciality: serving guests with warm hospitality at the House of Pure Aloha.

Individually we are known as, “HOPA Team Members” or “HOPAHs” (HOPA Hosts), collectively we are known as, the one and the only: “Team HOPA”.  Want to get to know us a little better, here are some fun facts!


 

UNCLE CLAY, Co-Founder & Partner
Serving at HOPA since? 1996 (counting days at the “old house”)

Where were you born? Honolulu, Hawaii.
Favorite shave ice? Kalespin since it’s made with my two most favorite vegetables packed with antioxidants!  Runner-ups would be lilikoi and coconut.
Where would you like to see the next HOPA? Kaneohe, then Kapolei.
What are you most proud of? My children Clint and Channie who are happy, healthy, confident, & humble young adults, managing to be who they are today after growing up in a single parent home.
What are your passions? Making heart-to-heart connections sharing Pure Aloha with every single soul that I have the opportunity to meet inside or outside of HOPA.
If you could be any animal, what would you be? A seagull so I could fly high and fly free enabling me to have a holistic and improved perspective of life and the world below.
If you could spend a year with anyone who would it be? Jesus, secondly the Dalai Lama.

BRONSON, Co-Founder & Partner

Where were you born?
Honolulu, Hawaii. 
Favorite shave ice? A Hawaiian Superman made by a HOPAH!
Where would you like to see the next HOPA? Any Pure Aloha-filled community in HI!
What are you most proud of? Living Pure Aloha one day at a time as best I can.
What are your passions? Our one world ‘ohana, social entrepreneurship, Hawaii, continual learning, itinerary-free travel, and meditation. 
If you could be any animal, what would you be? Something aquatic! Friends liken me to a honu because I tend to be peaceful and slow-moving.
If you could spend a year with anyone who would it be? The Buddha (post-Enlightenment).

CHELSEA, House Shift Leader

Where were you born?
Honolulu, Hawaii.
Favorite shave ice? Mango and chocolate or li hing with vanillia ice cream, mochi, and li hing powder.
Where would you like to see the next HOPA? Ala Moana or Ward.
What are you most proud of? I still have a lot of time to become proud of something. If I absolutely had to pick something though, I think the fact that I graduated from Kalani, is as much as a surprise as something to be proud of.
What are your passions? Life itself is a passion to me, but anything related to any art form is my passion.
If you could be any animal, what would you be? Oh. My. Gosh. ALL OF THEM, except bugs. Probably a cat because everybody wants to be a cat.
If you could spend a year with anyone, who would it be?This is nearly as challenging to answer as the shave ice question. I would spend another year learning from my music teacher Mr. Daniel Akemoto, because not only does learning about music and singing make my days better, but he has also taught me a lot about the smaller, more precious things in life.

LENNON, House Shift Leader

Where would you like to see the next HOPA? Japan!
What are you most proud of? Being here in the US
What are your passions? Entertainment, the more fun the better.
If you could be any animal, what would you be? Does a giant monster count?  If it does, then Godzilla!!  If not, then a shark.
If you could spend a year with anyone, who would it be? John Lennon I suppose, I will learn how to be a better Lennon and some singing lessons would be nice.  After all, I want to learn what kind of man I was named after.

VIVIAN, House Shift Leader

Where were you born? Honolulu, HI.
Favorite shave ice? Guava & green tea shave ice with Tahitian vanilla ice cream, mochi, & chocolate chips.
Where would you like to see the next HOPA? Waikiki
What are you most proud of? I am most proud of finally being able to decide on what I want to do in life. I am also very proud to be able to serve at HOPA while being a full time student at the same time, it really helped me on learning how to manage time well.
What are your passions in life? Being able to connect with many people, which is why I also have a passion for learning many different languages so I can begin to communicate with everyone.
If you could be any animal, what animal would you be?A red panda because pandas are my favorite animal and red pandas are really cute and get to sleep all day.
If you could spend a year with anyone, who would it be? My grandmother in California because she is the strongest and hardest working person that I know. I am her first grandchild, but I do not get to spend a lot of time with her, but I love her very much. She was the one to lead her family away from the Vietnam War and start a new life in America. My grandmother learned English all on her own and provided for her family, teaching them how to care for one another as well. I would love to spend time with her and learn from her wisdom.

KEILANI, HOPA Host

Favorite shave ice? Mango and Strawberry with Ice Cream.
Where would you like to see the next HOPA? Near the university area by because it is close to my house and I could go there a lot.
What are you most proud of? Shooting 3-pointer shots in basketball.
What are your passions? I like to dance and listen to music on my iPod.
If you could be any animal, what would you be? A monkey because I was born on the year of the monkey and I like to eat bananas.
If you could spend a year with anyone, who would it be?Taylor Swift, my favorite singer!

TIFFANI, House Shift Leader

Where would you like to see the next HOPA? Waikiki
What are you most proud of? Being able to grow and learn through my experiences in HOPA that can follow me outside of the House.  I am more comfortable making conversations with strangers and just greeting others.
What are your passions? Experiencing new things, whether it be places, tasks, foods, other people’s passions, anything and everything.
If you could be any animal, what would you be? Dog or a monkey.  I would be a dog because they are very loving, loyal, and effortlessly comfort other people.  I would be a monkey because they are very curious, silly, and make other people happy.
If you could spend a year with anyone, who would it be? My grandpa.  He is my idol and he doesn’t know that he is the one who has taught me to be selfless, caring, giving, and happy with whatever life throws at me.  I really don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have him around.

What are your passions? Loving and enjoying the things that make me happy.
If you could be any animal, what would you be? A tiger because they love to run, eat, and sleep.  Sometimes walking.  Tigers also love the outdoors and are strong.
If you could spend a year with anyone, who would it be? My Aunty because she acts my like she’s my age and is the person I would talk to if I need motivation or support.  My aunty is fun, out-going, and supportive.  She puts me on the right track when I have trouble planning out my future life.

JOHANNA, HOPA Host

What are you most proud of? Joining the HOPA ‘Ohana and getting to have the opportunity to have this experience to grow and learn.
What are your passions? Being able to contribute to society by helping others.
If you could be any animal, what would you be? A dolphin because they get to spend all day swimming in the ocean.
If you could spend a year with anyone, who would it be? My mom because I would like to know what she would want me to know to help me in life and what’s she’s been through through here own life.

RYANNE, HOPA Host
Where were you born? China and raised in Hawaii.
Favorite Shave Ice? Strawberry, Milk Chocolate, or both together forever!

What are you most proud of? I’m proud that I choose to see the positive everyday!
What are your passions in life? I enjoy learning in any environment, experience or opportunity given to me so I can grow as a person. I’m also big on reading and knowing quotes.
If you could be any animal, what animal would you be? A Pug. They’re so ugly they’re cute!
If you could spend a year with anyone, who would it be? My mom who passed away in 2012. I would want time to grow up, learn, and share more moments with her.

MIKA, HOPA Host

Where would you like to see the next HOPA? Waikiki
What are you most proud of? Graduating from high school and continuing onto college here on Oahu at Hawaii Pacific University and playing golf for them.
What are your passions in life? Going on hikes and swimming or surfing at the beach, meeting new people and making new memories.
If you could be any animal what would you be? I would be a shark because they live and can breathe in the ocean and are at the top of the food chain so they don’t have too many predators to lookout for.
If you could spend a year with anyone, who would it be? My grandma, she passed away earlier this year and I wish she was able to teach me how to cook certain Japanese foods the way she did so I could spend more time with her and learn how to make it in the future.
